The variation in color/trexture is due to sanding and the different layer exposure. This effect should disappear when contouring handle. Discounted accordingly! All wood, even stabilized wood, is susceptible to warping in adverse conditions. Please keep scales in a climate controlled area until ready for use. Segmented scales are even more susceptible to warping due to the thermal expansion and contraction of all of the different layers of material at different rates.
